thank you so much for this comprehensive read. I value all the work you have been consistently doing in opening the channels for Africa to be in the conversation through a very nuanced way. This is all amplified by your work as a great starting point in getting Africa to the conversations we are having about the world. Especially the under-talked-about Sudan. Thank you.
This answered so many questions. It’s as if you just took us on a journey through time. Both fascinating and heart wrenching. Well-written, thoroughly researched, objective and nuanced insights. I truly look forward to Part 2.
A friend of mine works for a NGO stationed in South Sudan. He was telling me how most of the rural land is owned by the clans and most for the urban land is owned by the government. They're still working out the individual property rights system. They should really invite legal scholars to set the property rights regime but unfortunately modern liberals are no longer confident in the foundation of their societies.
> Sudan’s impact on the Arab-Israeli conflict, and more.
Dear God. The Palestine thing is like trans issues but for Muslims. It doesn't impact most people's lives but for some reason everyone needs to have an opinion on it.
Let's be real here. Arab Sudanese would have hated Israel anyways. Even Indonesia bans immigration to and from Israel.
Plus even Muslim countries like Bangladesh supported South Sudanese independence (without the rebel funding obviously). Arab Sudanese are just assholes.

Thanks! The comment means a lot to me.
I wrote this about wider patterns, and included Nubia. Possibly of interest https://www.ggd.world/p/slave-raiding-solidarity-and-status?r=zccyx&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
This was a fantastic read! Just subscribed and recommended your substack!
You are so kind, it precisely parallels your story about Sudan!!
Very interesting. It’s a lot to digest and mull over. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Excellent article about an undercovered country. Keep it up. I think this one of the best Substacks on Africa by far.
I'm curious why you may have preference for my substack. Mind sharing?

Haha, Israel was funding the southern rebels. So it makes sense why the Arab Sudanese would hate Isrsel
