on the great financial crisis have a look at kevin erdmann who has a book and substack. His take is a quite a bit different from the standard narrative on a housing glut, arguing instead that there were shortages is key cities and the US gov acted as if there was a glut which lead to the great recession. he has a ton of empirics on his side.
In your history of Rwanda report there was a reference to the Batwa. It so interested me that I tried to learn more and looked for Pygmies or other indigenous peoples in Africa, including in Cameroon. Also, the influence of the tsetse fly on the spread of pastoralism in Africa as it relates to settlement of Bantu that displaced the Batwa and other forest people. It could be one reason forest people continue to live in DRC.
Hey Peter, I appreciate your comments! If people vote for Mauritius after my Nigeria series (which I will do after Tunisia), I'll definitely do Mauritius next. I would say Mauritius is indeed the Singapore of Africa and Rwanda is just a country that is very good at brand management. If you finish my Rwanda series, then you'l know that Rwanda is still poorer than most African countries simply because it has a much higher proportion of subsistence farmers than most African countries. The Rwanda development board is very good marketing since it focuses on Kigali and it's national parks.
It would be great to see something on Mauritius. You mentioned in your Rwandan article that it’s the other contender for “Singapore of Africa” - why? And how did landlocked Rwanda get there first?
More "economic and geopolitical history of" articles (preferably west Africa but you'll get there when you get there)
When I get there I'll get there!
I've you read these yet?:
Burkina Faso (3 parter): https://yawboadu.substack.com/p/history-and-geopolitical-history
Mali (3 parter): https://yawboadu.substack.com/p/economic-and-geopolitical-history-409
Niger (3 parter): https://yawboadu.substack.com/p/nigers-modern-economic-and-geopolitical
One's I'll remaster:
Sierra Leone. Guinea, and Ivory Coast
Nigeria is coming soon after Rwanda and Tunisia. Nigeria will be my longest series (5)
No idea how I missed these!
Anything and everything, really great output so far, excited for what's next!

Thanks! I'll check it out
The role of the National Endowment for Democracy in Africa would be an important series.
And, of course, the continuing web involving Somaliland.
