I'm reminded of a comment made when South Carolina declared secession from the United States, that it's too small to be a country and too large to be an insane asylum. History may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. So tragic!
I knew the 94 genocide didn't come out of nowhere, but the scale of preceding massacres and over such a long period of time! I often despair over the increasing global violence over the last decade, but this is a good reminder that things see still better than before the Great African War and unwinding of communism.

I legit didn't know that the Tutsis did a pretty massive (200k) Hutu genocide in Burundi before the Rwandan genocide, appreciate the background.
